September 1964 QST Honor Roll - K4RID first listed at 302/316 (age 19). In those days, DXCC Honor Roll was published monthly in QST because it was a relatively small list...only 131 total stations on the Mixed List above. Today the Honor Roll is published annually because it consumes multiple pages of fine print in a larger format QST. For comparison, the August 2003 listing shows nearly 4200 total stations on the Mixed List. Needless to say, achieving Honor Roll was more difficult years ago before the era of Packet, mega-expeditions, etc. In those days you had to listen a lot and share info on-the-air with your fellow DX'ers. I was a member of "The Lone Wolf" DX net which met every Sunday morning at 1300 UTC on 14055 (CW of course!) and Gus Browning W4BPD was the net control years before he started his famous expeditions. Frequent check-ins besides Gus and myself were W0DU, W2AGW, W2FZY, W3LMA, W5UX and others. For you Top Banders, notice the many guys on this list who migrated to DX-ing on 160: W8BRA (now N4SU), W8PQQ (W8AH SK), W2TQC, W2BXA, W1BIH, DJ1BZ (SK), W4QCW (now W4DR), W2OKM, DJ2BW and W3WGH (now W3GH).
